當(dāng)年在努布拉島營建侏羅紀(jì)公園時，約翰?哈蒙德（理查德?阿滕伯勒 Richard Attenborough 飾）曾把附近的索納島作為恐龍的制造工場。侏羅紀(jì)公園淪陷后，索納島上的恐龍在完全隔絕且缺少必要合成元素的情況下生存了4年時間。哈蒙德對此頗感好奇，他重新找到馬科姆博士（杰夫?高布倫 Jeff Goldblum 飾），邀請他前往小島考察。4年前經(jīng)歷讓馬科姆心有余悸，他斷然拒絕哈蒙德的提議，但當(dāng)?shù)弥焉ㄖ禧惏?摩爾 Julianne Moore 飾）已前往小島之時，只得跟隨探險隊整裝出發(fā)。
